Top of the Food Chain

In the back country of Tabanan lay's a famous temple. Known for it Bat's, Monkeys and the kilometer of Ladies baring gifts from the gods marching with a mix of reverence and joy to and through the 'Pura' gates, it's a sight i was amazed to stumble upon. A tradition almost lost in Bali, the dedication of the local banjar, religious local councils, to keep it alive and in all it's glory, allows this ceremony to survive the test of time and the ever changing island in which it exists.

They say the lifestyle of the inheriting generations has left the young ladies quite physically incapable of carry the weight over distances as much as 3km. For this reason the offerings in areas such as Ubud do not tower quite so high, but over more youthful and wealthy heads. Thank you for the strength of these women for a procession so plentiful, in almost unending magnitude.
